Lear the "blind" King

Lear the “blind” king!!!!

Today, I have watched a movie version of the play entitle King Lear. I am still reading the play and tried as much as I could to understand the play much better. This movie version released in 1983 the year I am still not exists in this world. From my understanding, I found that King Lear was trying to be a good father by decided to give out his kingdom to his daughters which was Goneril,Regan and Cordelia. Before they could have the kingdom, Lear asked them to show they love him. So, both Regan and Goneril used their power of flattery speech to proclaim their love towards Lear. And they managed to fool Lear but Cordelia does not managed to sell herself in order to prove that she really care and love towards him. The word “nothing” does not pleased Lear. The “blind” Lear was not aware that he has misjudged Cordelia’s love and gave his kingdom to Regan and Goneril. Lear was so mad with Cordelia because she was not able to express her love in the way he wanted it to be.
I could say that due to this incident, Lear has proven that he was “blind”, blind because he does not have the ability to understand others especially Cordelia and Kent (his most loyal friend).
In EDU 3217, this play has taught me how to be a better person on not easily being fooled by others. King Lear has told me from his action in the play so I must aware while dealing with others. There are many moral values that I could apply it to the students. I hoped that in the future this course teaching of the language of drama could be used for young Malaysian to become a good citizen.
