First of all I would I to say that I’m so surprise to when knowing that I’m going to learn drama in EDU 3217 Teaching the Language of Drama. For me, drama is some new for me and thinking that I’m going to learn it, it like preparing myself for a great battle. For the first time, I’m about to get serious with something called DRAMA. Frankly I would say that I am so good in drama. By taking this EDU 3217 Teaching the Language of Drama in this semester will helps me understand better elements in the drama and able to analyze and teach plays from various literary traditions.
During my first class with Dr.Edwin, I realize that there so many things that I really don’t know about dramas or plays. As the class go on I noticed that theater in one of the thing I have to learn in this course. Plus theatre has its own history. Basically what I am really aware about the theatre is that is started during Greek era and it is divided into two which is Greek tragedy and Greek comedy. I get to know several names that related in Greek theatre. As the time passed by the Roman theatre carves their names in the history of world theatre. I was shock when the film gladiator is actually one of the theatres during Roman era. Like the Greek theatre, Roman theatre is also divided into two categories which are the Roman tragedy and Roman comedy. Then we have the medieval theatre that touch upon theme like morality plays. In the same time, we have the Elizabethan Drama and from here I recognized several important and popular like Shakespeare, Marlowe, Jonson and Middleton. In the history of theater also we have the Restoration Drama and it is catered manly for the Court society. Besides learning the international theatre, plays and drama, I also get the chance to learn about own nation local theatre, plays and drama. It’s great learning everything under one roof.
Even though it is just beginning for me to explore this EDU 3217 Teaching the Language of Drama, I hope that I can gain lots and lots of knowledge and it is still plenty for me to learn. Maybe someday I am able to see the live presentation of theatre, plays or drama with my own eyes. I am sure that with that kind of experience I am able to motivate myself to see some things in lots of angle and make a better person or teacher in the future.

this subject may have been the most tiring subject to be finished this semester, but i think this subject has taught us to study the culture of someone or a community in a play..glad to know that you are able to motivate yourself by studying drama in order to become a better person or a better teacher in the future.the significance of studying this subject has been figured out by you...
ReplyDeleteWell Qamarul, I think almost all of the us have the same perception towards drama. If we look macro level, almost everyone feels that it's boring due to its wrong perception. They think that dramas are meant to be performed and not by reading it.They think that it's easier for them to comprehend the play if they watch rather than reading it.But,there is a significant in it when we are reading the play.As for this course,we are analysing the language of the drama. It somehow will boost our command of language. Moreover, we are also expose to the wider range of ideas and thoughts that are meant for the readers by the authors of the play. It enhances and consolidates our knowledge.I think rather than thinking about the negative aspect of the drama, lets take it as a positive note and work harder in order to excel in this course.Qamarul, I think you will be able to excel in this course and be a good literature teacher in the ESL classrooms.Good luck and my best wishes.
